You've never seen a "chinny" Mexican fighter? The Marquez brothers have jaws of solid granite...
why do certain races/nations/ethicitys have better chins?

Good post.Here it is....
The fighters you see tend to be the elite of the elite of their countries. For example, because of the Mexican come-forward, slugging style, a 'chinny' Mexican boxer likely doesn't make it to be an elite from the ams or lower-level pros.
Same with Africans.
So, please be more open minded. Remember, some of those 'cabdrivers' that JCC was running through and knocking out were 'chinny'.Comment

I don't think it has to do with race/ethnic. It's a matter of how a fighter comes up in the sweet science. Some fighters are babied threw the amateurs, and some start street fighting. IMO it starts young and who you fight on your way up.Comment

I think most Mexicans take punches well because they move to the pro ranks when they are 16-17 years old and are taking punches without headgear on 5-6 years before the average American or European.
Obviously that's not the only reason but I think there is something to be said about getting acclimated to taking those kind of shots early in your development and learning what you have to do to roll with them and survive.
Probably also why some Latino fighters burn out at a relatively young age. Many are so proud they take unneccesary punishment just because they can.Comment

Wow some of you cant understand english very well
i said i have yet to see a chinny mexican fighter i.e they all have above average punch resitance, iv never see a pro mexicann fighter k.o'd with one punch ala HATTON OR WILLIAMS
just wondered if it was genetics somehow, but hitman explained it pretty well
i thik some races are genitically faster than others, some races genitcally stronger, some races genitcally more durable and other races gentically have less thick skulls. The aborgines of Australia, for example, have thicker skulls than the average human but ar weak at thier ankle joints.
i do think the european causcian male takes a punch less well than a hispanic/african male, although you do get some exceptions, like the celts, guys like wayne mccullogh and scott harrison
i stick to the fact the p.ricans are stronger than a lot of races, however thier chins arent as strong as the mexicans, for example. im not saying to get a reaction, i could list countless fighters as an exampleLast edited by Chew BackAtacha; 12-16-2010, 06:40 AM.Comment

chins have to do with the craniology than anything else.
South Americans and Mexicans usually have broader and larger faces for their body because of the Native American ancestry. You see all the Mexican greats have larger heads than boxers of other races. JCC. Barrera. JMM. etc... when you have a larger broader face, structurally it is built better for taking punishment.
Europeans usually have narrower/oval faces with a sharp chin. There are exceptions to the rule like George Chuvalo.... but as you can see he doesn't have a typical euro face shape.
Most boxers with the solid chins take this face shape, Bernard Hopkins, David Tua, Ike Ibeabuchi, Oliver McCall etc etc.
So the reason Mexicans on average have better chins is because on average they have larger and more rigidly built craniums than other races.
You can also say the same for Samoans btw. You will not find a glassjawed Samoan.Comment
