idk, but i do know where he lives and have seen his house, it's ****ing baller, seems out of the pay grade of a referee, but cortez has been around long enough and his house has been there long enough to be able to afford it (pre housing bubble), he's probably been smart with his money too. also he drives a cherokee, so he's fairly modest.......

but how he conducts himself in the ring, it makes one wonder if he's getting under the table cash..........

definitely not as much when he protected floyd. Seriously Joe cortez has always been like that. He is anti wrestling, as soon as both fighters tie up he breaks them up right away.

And it wasn't like maidana was super clean in that fight. He was throwing rabbit punches hitting off the break, etc. BTW i like chino but the hate khan getting is ridiculous.

I think team Maidana paid him at least 10k per rabbit punch allowed and every knockdown (e.g SLIP) about 50k.

After Maidana's tab ran out just after a few rounds, Cortez went back to reffing properly.

          ^^^ This...

A lot of people on here are morons. Is there only one way that a referee can interpret the rules? Is there some rule that I'm missing that provides a static time limit on how long a fighter has to remain clinched before a referee breaks them up?

Cortez is, and has always been anti-clinching. You idiots who continue to be miffed that he breaks up clinches quickly are not the best representation of intelligence in the boxing community.

              20-25k sounds about right.

probably the same amount they paid to protect Floyd

It's obvious he just had money on the fight going 12 rounds, hence why he was so determined to stop Maidana's evil onslaught late in the fight

Seriously though, he's always done this.....he's an attention whore who thrives on getting in the action and breaking it up even when it's uncalled for...

                  Watch Calzaghe/Hopkins.

It's not a reflection on Khan, he would've won the fight with or without Cortez, it's just another in a long list of terrible (and questionable) performances from Cortez.
