umm, yeah he did affect that fight, he let floyd dip down and turn away taking away the scoring area. he let floyd use his forearms in hattons throat all fight long, so far all those tactics are illegal in boxing. and it wasn't one offense, it was the WHOLE FIGHT. all the while he warned hatton for any little infraction and never said anything to floyd................ biased??? i think so, paid off? i think so, incompetent? inept? old? slow? and blind? i think so, all the above.....

young cortez was good, the current cortez who is trying to be a celebrity with his " fair and firm " gib is crap. it puts cortez in a bad position from the moment he says that line, because if he makes one call, he's forced to make another to counter that call, to be fair, or was it to be firm??? idk, but once he started that campaign and tried to go for the celebrity status with his catch phrase he turned into a completely incompetent referee............ and has progressively gotten worst, and now gets more high profile fights....... his celebrity status is getting him these fights and not his current body of work.

i've mentioned it to him once and he scoffed and ignored me, but at least he knows where real boxing fans stand with him and what he's doing.

Cortez is a biased unfair ref.

Cortez cheated Humberto Soto when Soto fought Francisco Lorenzo.

Cortez knew that Soto's punch was a glancing blow that barely grazed Lorenzo, and knew that Lorenzo was faking it, but went ahead and DQ Soto to prevent Soto from fighting Pac later that year.

Cortez was also unfair when he failed to take a point away from Pac , in the 1st round of Pac-Marquez, after Pac hit JMM, after the 3rd knockdown, while JMM was already down.
Thats why the Judge purposely scored the 1st round a 10-7, and not a 10-6, cause he was compensating for Cortez' failure to take a point away from Pac.

Cortez was also unfair when he allowed Kevin McBride to cheat his way against Tyson, by constantly pushing and using his 30lbs weight advantage by pressing Tyson againsty the ropes for most of the fight.

What a bunch of ******s, its any tiny detail that these emotionally hurt fans hold onto whenever their favourite fighter loses. The ref did what the ref needed to do...personaly i think hes the best p4p ref ive ever seen in my entire profesional boxing analyist life.

i call shenanigans here, if he's the best ref that you've ever seen in your entire professional career? you haven't seem many fights.......... there are so many holes in his refereeing it's disgusting to watch.

i would much rather have jay nady ref a fight than cortez. but you can honestly say that his refereeing job is on the same level as Smoger, Weeks, Bayless, Caiz jr????? hell no! cortez doesn't even hold a candle to them.........

A few years ago Cortez was the best referee in the world. I don't know if it got to his head or what but anymore he protects the star. Which is why he is still getting calls to work.

You're the one ignoring Khortez allowing excessive holding and letting Khan get beat up within an inch of his life in the 10th and 12th round and helping him survive.

Keep ignoring the obvious evidence to support your foolish claims.

what I'm trying to say about cortez is that I have no doubt that if roles were reversed and maidana was getting hammered, the fight would have been over.
I'm not so sure about that Walt because the only reason Kahn turned his back to him (which was only once by the way) was because their arms got tangled up and Maidana kept hitting him in the back of the head.

Look I hear you but to jump from "Cortez should of stopped the fight" to "Cortez is bought and paid for" is a stretch.

cortez is either incompetant and/or biased.

but that's not the worst thing about him. the worst thing is he gets way too involved in the fight.
