I live in California which is one of the worst gun states in the union and I don't need a license to buy ammo here. The only states I can think that is even remotely possible is N.Y or Illinois.

But yeah, you can travel with ammo or guns as long as you check them in.

Depending on the state, you can get in trouble for just owning ammo. It's against the law to carry any kind of ammo on a plane. If it wasn't someone like King, I guarantee they would have thrown the person in jail.
