U turn ur back on a fight. ur not protecting urself. it isn't the ref's job to step in to let u protect urself.

Cortez took a point off Hatton because Mayweather turned his back through the ropes and it didn't even hit him.

actually,. from the looks of it, maidana is the one who prompted to step around to khans back throwing his rabbit punches

and yes, in most fights, the ref will usually halt the action if one fighters back is facing the other fighter, that's all refs, cortez' main problem is breaking clinches where work is being done, but u can't blame him there as most refs would have done the same thing

there is no such thing as turning ur back on ur opponent as a defensive maneuver in boxing. if u turn ur back ur not protecting urself period. you are vulnerable to whatever punishment u just put urself in. Cortez shouldn't have stepped in to let Khan reset. Khan wasn't protecting himself as a result of Maidana's legal assault so he should be able to reep the benefits.

First time I saw that.

I think he was hurt pretty damn bad. He's a lot tougher than people thought, though for sure.

Watching it again, I don't think he was as badly hurt as I thought at the time. He took a lot of big shots and took them well, and eventually started throwing back. He looked more fatigued than anything at the end of the round and if I remember correctly he won the 11th round.

He took some wicked shots and is a warrior for getting through that.

What an epic, epic fight tho.
