MAIDANA SUFFERS WRATH OF KING CON
By G. Leon
Joe Cortez? Are we running out of people to make Hall Of Famers?
Amir Khan UD 12 Marcos Maidana: Maybe I'm alone here, but the best fight I've seen this year was marred by the horrendous officiating of Joe Cortez, who should only be allowed to the Hall of Fame as a visitor. Khan dropped Maidana with a vicious left to the body in the first round and it appeared he was on his way to an early stoppage victory, but Marcos Maidana epitomizes what a boxing dog is and came back stronger than Khan might have been ready for. Unless running around the ring, looking like a cat fighting a dog and being fortunate to be the fighter and the promoter paying the judges and referees perdiems, Amir Khan did NOTHING tonight to prove that he deserves the winner of the Bradley-Alexander showdown. Maidana deserves a rematch and one has to wonder if Khan would have been awarded a stoppage victory had he been battering Maidana from pillar to post in the manner Maidana was manhandling him for the majority of the tenth round. Joe Cortez also deducted a point from Maidana due to an elbow that struck HIM while he was breaking the fighters, yet Khan didn't lose any points even though he did ALL of the holding. Official scores were 114-111, 113-112 x2.
