    Analysis: Khan, Maidana, Ortiz, Peterson

I've pretty much said what I needed to say through comments on other threads, but I'll say it again.

First: Peterson vs Ortiz, It was an alright fight. Anyone saying it was the worst fight of the year is crazy. If Ortiz wasn't placed on such a high pedestal it wouldn't have looked really that bad.

About Ortiz, this guy needs a new trainer and to seriously consider fighting at 147.

He was so sluggish in this fight. He was throwing punches from so far off, 1 at a time, allowing himself to get countered. He was even stumbling around like he was just dead tired, which is a sure sign of being physically drained. Since he can't seem to make 140 anyway, he might as well just go up to 147.

And about his trainer, Garcia just ain't teaching him nothing new. It seems like he's just teaching him the same old steps over and over with every opponent, despite the style differences. He fought Peterson the same way he fought Antonio Diaz, and those r 2 different fighters that need 2 different game plans to beat them.

Maidana is a beast. Nothing more can be said. I don't know whether to give him credit, or take some credit away from Khan. But that was amazing.

Khan was ridiculous. He was so freakin amazing in the beginning of the fight I couldn't see anyone around his weigh class beating him. He almost got a knockout in the first round too... Man, what a beast. But than that 10th round happened,
I don't blame him for getting caught, but what I didn't like was that he sat on his victory, and ran. Considering he likely would have gotten KO'd if he didn't, I don't really blame him. But it's kind of arrogant for him to let himself lose the last 3 rounds (De La Hoya-esq) just becuz u know u have a big lead. Considering how Cortez was more than happy to break them up when they get close, there was no need to do it.

I think you're overlooking how hurt Khan was, Khan wasn't sitting on his victory like De La Hoya did against Trinidad (and De La Hoya DID beat Trinidad)

Khan got caught and he HAD to run, up until that point he was backing up but throwing hard combinations. Soon as he got tagged he had to move otherwise that was the end of the fight.

I think Khan was determined to survive despite how hurt he clearly was, I don't really think Cortez factored into it he didn't let Maidana work inside all too much but Maidanas hurtful shots were the long range overhand rights, they were the ones that really hurt him.
