  • Judah signs to fight Mayweather

    According to **********:

    Exclusive Interview: Zab Judah
    By G. Leon

"Me and Don King just signed, let's see what Floyd's excuse is now!"
August 26, 2005 - GL: Floyd Mayweather Jr called me last night to tell me that you turned down $4M or 40 times what you made in the Cory Spinks rematch to fight him on PPV this November. What's the deal Superman? "I think Floyd is a a hyprocrite because all he has to do is call his manager (Al Haymon) and ask him to look on his desk. I'm here with Don King right now and the deal just got signed, sealed and delivered on our end. We're waiting to see what his response is now. Instead of getting on the phone to grandstand with the public through **********, he should have known better. He should have known that there's nobody in America that I'm scared of. He already knows he's out of his league right now."

Instead of getting on the phone to grandstand with the public through **********, he should have known better. He should have known that there's nobody in America that I'm scared of. He already knows he's out of his league right now."

GL: Floyd also told me that you guys were demanding the fight take place at 148 pounds in a non-title fight. He told me you want to do that because this way you'll be able to get paid and keep your titles after you lose. What's the deal with that?

Zab Judah: "The reason we did that, a non-title fight at 148 was for a purpose. If you're going to negotiate and try to make all the demands we're going to negotiate back with you. In order for me to give him a shot at the undisptued welterweight championship of the world, it's got to be 50-50. Being that Floyd Mayweather didn't want to do that, we negotiated. Let's do a non-title fight, make a whole lot of money and give the fans a great fight. If I'm a coward for not wanting to fight for the championships then he's a coward for not wanting to fight for the titles and split the mone 50-50.

GL: According to the agreement that you faxed back to him it will be a non-title fight at 148, correct?

    Zab Judah: "Yep."

GL: Bob Arum mentioned Klitschko and Rahman going on November 12, pushing Floyd's date back to perhaps Thanksgiving weekend if he fights on PPV...

Zab Judah: (cutting in) "I'm here with my promoter right now because we're ready for Floyd. We're signed and ready to go the ball is in his court. I don't care about the date because the world knows how big this fight is, as long as there's a ring and a referee it don't matter when the fight happens. He wanted the most money, he got the most money. He wanted the fight, he's getting what he asked for.

The other day he was talking about he doesn't need to fight for the titles, now he's getting his wish. He needs to stop making excuses. I want the public to know that this dude lives off excuses and he needs a spot-light. But I don't think he'll ever step in the ring with Zab Judah because he knows I'm going to be the one to embarrass him. He could talk all that pound for pound the best and he never lost, and whatever else he did, but he ain't never fought Zab Judah. When he goes to sleep at night, he already knows the outcome. It's like I said, Greg, the contract is on his desk, let's see what the pound for pound ***** comes back to you with now."

"We took the $4M and gave him his $8M. Now if that ain't enough for him, tell the fans what else I have to do to get this guy in the ring. And I'm telling you right now, Floyd doesn't go the distance. He gets carried out of the ring and Roger Mayweather carries him out of the ring or runs in to help bring him up off the ground. No disrepsect to Cory, but the same way I told you I was going to leave Cory on the ropes, I'm going to do Floyd the same way."

Its gonna be funny when Zab loses and still have his belts because he fought 1lb heavier. He'll surely be respected as the true champ

He would lose his belts either way if he comes in over the limit. If he loses Mayweather becomes champ but if he wins he still would lose his titles if he weighed in heavy.

I hope this fight gets done. This would be one of the best boxing matches ever in my opinion.

              No, read it again.

Judah wanted to weigh in at 148, and have it a non-title fight.

He's basiclly trying to screw Floyd over because he's taking such a low cut, and I don't blame him.

I like and respect Floyd, but he's got a lot of work at 140, and really has no business demanding a shot at all the titles at 147.

The titles wouldn't be on the line, so Mayweather wouldn't have any claim to the official titles, nor would Zab lose titles for weighing in at 148 becasue that's the contracted weight.

I didn't see that part. Mayweather won't take that deal because he wants those belts. Remember he said that he would win titles in 4 weight classes before he turns 30 or something like that. That's why he wants to fight at 147. Really the only fight for him right now at 140 is Hatton which I would love to see but that doesn't look like it's getting done anytime soon.
