Please, the fact that he's a world class athlete throws his thyroid excuse out the window. Now if he was a fattie like Arreola I would understand but you can't be a professional fighter in the lighter weights if you have thyroid issues. The simple fact is that he was draining himself to fight smaller weaker guys and he simply doesn't have the dietary diligence to do it with training AND nutrition. If he had thyroid issues he could not be the kind of stick and move boxer he is because he would have no stamina. Take Shannon Briggs for example, his big 'roided a$$ is an example of what a fighter suffering from thyroid issues would look like. Fatigued after 3 minutes because your metabolism is so outta whack that the body uses up too much energy during the metabolism process to properly convert energy to mass or sustained stamina. I believe he trains hard but it seems to me he can't stop himself from eating. And I don't blame him, Dominican food is F'n delicious.Comment

Guzman seems to be of that ilk and has been reported to be as high as 180+ pounds in between fights.
I've read of him being at buffet lines too and I have little doubt that that contributed too it, but the thyroid issue explains what happened before the Funeka fight. Guzman has 300+ amateur bouts, so he knows how and the rate at which his body can shed pounds. There just had to have been an extra problem and this might be it.Comment
