I don't remember how serious his boxing career was to be, anyway, though I remember reading he blamed some personal problems, relationship problems, on his decision to box.

I saw Kendall Gill the other night against a very game, very out of shape guy who was a foot shorter and 11 lbs. lighter than him. I suspect Gill's match-ups are inspired by the same line of thinking as Rourke's scheduled opponents...

i think mickey realized if he fought a real LHW he'd get ****ed up, it's alot safer making movies. also, he turned pro late, i suspect just to see if he still could. from what i've read he was a decent amatuer, though
