Unbelievable! So it's OK for Pac to be "happy", but his opponents can't be? Other fighters have to train to make weight, and Pac can train to be effective. What a ridiculous posture...

Don't see why people are catching feelings over this. It's true, Marquez has no business going higher than lightweight, he's only made the limit once in like 4 fights if I'm not mistaken. At 147 or even 140 he'd be at a terrible disadvantage. People need to stop thinking this is '04 or '08 and both guys are featherweights. The ship for a competitive fight between Pac and Marquez sailed away a few years and about 15 lbs ago. Today it would be a brutal one-sided massacre and then all the people whining here would be the first to tell everyone about how Manny took on a faded/shot, bloated Marquez (which would be true).

How is it ridiculous exactly? Pac, like most fighters, used to train to cut weight/drain himself and then put the weight back on by rehydrating the night/day before the fight. But Roach, Ariza figured his optimal fighting weight was 144-145, so why kill Manny to make weight when you can keep him well fed and have him put on lean muscle instead of 15lbs of water weight overnight? Manny only puts on about 3 or 4 lbs of water weight these days, which means he's in peak form.

More fighters have the option to do this, but they'd rather gear their training toward cutting massive amounts of weight and then gaining some of it back in water over a short period of time. Pac used to do this, but he got with a pro in Ariza and they changed up the modus operandi and look at the results.

Roach on Martinez vs Manny " Martinez at the right weight I think can be the most exciting fight out there.”

Roach on Manny vs Marquez “I’m not going to have him making weight."
