At the Acer Arena in Olympic Park, New South Wales, Australia, middleweight contender Garth Wood (10-1-1, 6KOs) scored a huge upset when he knocked out two-time world champion Anthony Mundine (40-4, 24KOs) in the fifth round of their fight on Wednesday night. Wood floored Mundine with a vicious left hook to end a scrappy affair 58 seconds into the fifth round. The loss is Mundine's first since his knockout loss to German Sven Ottke in 2005, and his first to an Australian opponent in more than 20 fights against compatriots.

I thought it was a disgusting match-up on paper, but I guess it never took much more than a punch in order to have a chance against Mundine. No wonder he was so careful in selecting his opposition.

This is one of the best things that has happened to Australian boxing in a while. I'm sure the public was getting sick of Mundine's campaign.

Glad to see Garth Wood pull it off, but I'll be surprised if he goes much further than this.

Mundine received very little press for this fight. Apart from a few commercials on cable-tv, there was barely any stories about this fight written in the papers.

The public had been ****** dry by Mundine I think. He had a promising career after he defeated Green but he decided to fight bums instead.

This is probably a bigger upset than Litzau vs Caballero.

It's huge to me considering I was here criticizing this match-up when it was signed.

Difficult to see where Mundine can go from here. The only way to salvage his career is by fighting a world class opponent and somehow winning, but he hasn't had the courage to do so in years and now he doesn't even have the skills of old.
