154 belt is one thing 160 belt is another. I can see Manny doing this to try to win yet another bull**** title
Pac-Martinez at 154 for JMW and MW straps?

Yeah, with Arum's reluctance to co-promote and his 2011 plan of Pacquiao-Mosley and Pacquiao-Cotto/Margarito II... I wish he would retire, step back and let his stepson take over Top Rank operations. I've never heard any other promoters talk negatively about DuBoef and he and Schaefer reportedly had good talks about a Marquez fight, but of course Arum shut that down because of his personal beefs with Golden Boy.
Arum turned 79 today if I'm not mistaken, I don't know why his greed is growing with his age. He won't be around forever and he can't take that money with him.
Why not give fans the best fights possible and do what's best for boxing and not just his bottom line and checkbook?Comment

Arum's only objection was that it was too soon after Pac's
grind-out with Plasterito. I say the fight can be made in late
2011.
What bothered me though was that after the initial offer
from diBella, Sergio was talking about 155 as his minimum.
How the **** was he going to try to 'reclaim' a JMW strap
if he's over 154? Was it all just hot air, because Arum had
already SAID 'no more bigger guys'?Comment

cause martinez is too big.
pac says 150 lbs max. martinez says 154 lbs min. result = no fight. If Sergio were calling out Manny at 154, that'd be honorable
because small as he is, Pacquiao is a beltholder at JMW.
doesn't matter. calling out a guy that weighed 144 lbs for a 154 lbs paper title is a ***** move.However... Sergio calling out Pac at 155 seems a bitch move:
that's MW by definition, and is effectively calling out a smaller
guy AND making him go up a weight class.
pac's terms are 150 lbs. a compromise would be 152-153 lbs.For just a pound of compromise, we could have a MAJOR event:
Sergio offers to meet at 154 stipulated, a weight he does not
deny he can still make...
yes, it can be done thuslyAt stake would be Pac's JMW belt --which Sergio wants-- and
also Sergio's MW belt, which would be legitimately defended at
154, because the two fighters would still weigh in under 160:
by definition that qualifies as a MW fight.
yes crazy.Crazy? Well, what was Sergio offering originally, again?
pac weighs 148 lbs on fight night. berto is 160 lbs on fight night. who the **** you calling a "smaller opponent"?Since Arum wants to give Pac a "smaller opponent" for now,
Pac can fight Berto to keep busy, then Sergio later in 2011.
What'chu tink?

More to the point, it's true.

You're assuming diBella can't hold his ground re: 154.
Even if he caves to 152 or some similar shit, it's still
within the legal definitions of JMW and MW, fightwise.
It ain't ring-weight these days that determines weight class.pac weighs 148 lbs on fight night. berto is 160 lbs on fight night. who the **** you calling a "smaller opponent"?
it's the day-before weigh in.
Both Berto and Pacquiao are WW titleholders.
Both will weigh in under 147 if they fight, which is less than
what Sergio Martinez weighs in at these days.
I don't make the rules, I just like to actually know them.Last edited by horge; 12-07-2010, 11:19 PM.Comment

screw the double title
just fight him at 154 if it's gonna happen
no mandate for this anyway
but Pac can definitley beat Martinez
volume is key to that fight
Martinez won't be the faster man in the ring for once
don't overrate his power based on Williams KO
Sergio can test Pac but he'd get outworked and shut downComment

dibella won't budge from 154 lbs... neither will martinez. this fight ain't happening.
the day-before weigh in is the official weight. but the fight night weight let's you know who's the smaller/bigger guy.It ain't ring-weight these days that determines weight class.
