Legally yes you can but according to the LAW Reed you have to stop hitting said person once you have the upper hand cause if you don't the law looks at it as you are now assualting said person. So both yall assualted each other at that point. Crazy I know but it is what it is.

Shouting at someone can amount to assault if you intend the victim to apprehend the application of unlawful force.

If you push someone that can amount to battery as you are making physical contact. In any situation you can use reasonable force to defend yourself so you could potentially get away with punching someone for pushing you.
