But on Saturday, during a call from his phone while driving in Los Angeles, Pacquiao's advisor, Michael Koncz, told FanHouse that there was yet another "footnote to the conversation" regarding the sweepstakes to face Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 KOs).
That "footnote," said Koncz, had to do with yet another consideration for an opponent in WBA junior middleweight king Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KOs) of Puerto Rico, whom Pacquiao dethroned as WBO welterweight champ by 12th-round knockout in November of 2009.
Koncz said that he was on the way to meet with Cotto as well as the fighter's close friend and translator.
"Miguel Cotto is still looking to have a rematch with Manny, and as a matter of fact, he has called me tonight, and I'm going to meet with him right now in Los Angeles. We've spoken to Miguel before, and he would love to do a rematch with Manny," Koncz said of Pacquiao, , who is coming off of an HBO pay per view televised Nov. 13 unanimous decision rout of ex-titlist Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KOs) which added the WBC's vacant junior middleweight (154 pounds) belt to the WBO welterweight (147 pounds) crown that he already owned.
"They're in Los Angeles now, and there at some fights in Orange County. They called me and asked me if I could make it to the fight to meet them, and, if not, then they're going to come out to my house after the fights," said Koncz, referring to Top Rank's Top Rank Live event at The Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. "It's going to be a get-together. I don't know if you can call it a meeting. But unless it revolved around Manny, why would they want to drive all the way out to my house to see me?"
