Comments Thread For: Chris John-Yuriorkis Gamboa Eyed For March, Says Arum

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum is planning to pursue a featherweight showdown between unbeaten boxrs Chris John (44-0-2, 22KOs), of Indonesia, and, Cuban-born, former Olympic gold medalist, Yuriorkis Gamboa (19-0, 15KOs). John is the WBA's "super champion in recess" in the featherweight division. Gamboa, promoted by Top Rank, is the IBF champion and the current "super champion" of the WBA. The sanctioning body has ordered both boxers to fight.

First Gamboa was going to fight Rojas, then Caballero, now John. I hope the fight actually happens this time.

Well saying you're going to fight these guys, is way better than what Lopez is doing. Lopez is being highly protected. And I don't blame Arum after the Mtagwa-Lopez fight and the Mtagwa-Gamboa fight, obviously Lopez is not all that. It's not even about Gamboa knocking out Mtagwa and Lopez couldn't, it's about Mtagwa having Lopez out on his feet in the later rounds. Pathetic.

Interesting fight, it will be all about where the fight takes place.

If John is able to keep Gamboa outside at the end of his jab Gamboa won't be able to get off much, but as seen in the first Juarez fight if Gamboa can get inside John can get beat on the inside.

          Interesting fight.

He's not going to fight Rojas. Rojas is not 35 and he's never been stopped.

                Great fight!

I used to say Gamboa kicks John's ass, but as I started thinking about it and realizing that Gamboa has a bit of problems with guys who don't come forward, so it should be an interesting matchup. Of course I still favor Gamboa to win, just not as spectacularly as I used to think.

                Gamboa vs JuanMa late 2011!
