Koncz: Marquez overpriced himself; fans want fight for the wrong reasons

As Manny Pacquiao sets his eyes on an April clash with Shane Mosley in Las Vegas, his advisor Michael Koncz revealed that negotiations with Golden Boy Promotions regarding a third fight between Juan Manuel Marquez and Pacquiao was shot down because GBP and Marquez have overpriced themselves out.

"Marquez and Golden Boy can't figure it out that Manny is the draw not Marquez, so I think they have overpriced themselves on that, and again, as Manny has said so many times, we have nothing to prove. What's amusing to me is a couple of years ago, Marquez flew to the Philippines and begged us to fight him and said he would do that fight for less than a million. So what happened to that million dollar offer, I don't know," Koncz told me Saturday night at the Honda center after Nonito Donaire's win over Wladimir Sidorenko.

When I asked how much the Marquez camp was asking for, Koncz simply replied by saying, "I don't negotiate to the media, I just say I think he's overpriced himself. I don't think we have anything to prove by fighting Marquez and I think Mosley- Mosley has a tremendous fan base- he's a nice guy and a good guy to work with."

Granted that Team Pacquiao believes that they have nothing to prove against Marquez, I wondered how much they value what the fans want. Both Pacquiao fans and boxing fans in general have been clamoring for a trilogy with Marquez. Pacquiao's two fights with Marquez have been epic battles and took the pound-for-pound king to deep waters he seldom has been since tearing into the US boxing scene. If not to see a great fight, Pacquiao fans simply want to see their idol shut Marquez up after his repeated insults and claims that Pacquiao is afraid of him and that he beat him twice.

Koncz in his part simply believes that they are doing what's best for Pacquiao. "I think the fans want the fight for the wrong reasons. Believe me, Manny appreciates his fans. Manny knows his fans got him to where he is, but sometimes you can't always do what the fans want. We have to do what's right with Manny Pacquiao."

Hurry up Koncz, you gotta start preparing a venue for PAC's next PPV sparring partner, Mosley.

Why was he at the Donaire fight. I hope to God he is not Nonito's adviser too.

Did Shaefer in the previous article last year asking for a 50-50?

Marquez is a Fraud ducking Pacquiao easily... He's making it like he is calling Pacquiao out but asking for a 50-50 behind the camera.
