    Comments Thread For: Is Humberto Soto-Brandon Rios The Next War Coming Up?

    By Jake Donovan - On a night where nobody quite knew what to expect, lightweight titlist Humberto Soto survived a tough test to outlast Urbano Antillon in taking a unanimous decision in their main event Saturday evening at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA.

    Scores were 114-113 (twice) and 115-112 in a bout that was granted a game-time upgrade to main event status, and proved to live up to the billing in delivering a sure fire Fight of the Year candidate.

    It was an extremely physical fight throughout, and downright dirty at times. Referee Ray Corona earned his paycheck in attempting to keep things civil, offering several warnings for low blows and take downs, and even deducting a point from Antillon’s tally for excessive low blows. I was there at the fight, and let me tell you; it was a hell of a fight. However, as good and close as the fight was, the scorecards were too close. Antillon fought a hell of a fight but was always a step behind Soto. Although every single round was close and hard-fought, Antillon really only won about 3-4 rounds. It was one of those great fights where every single round was close but had a clear winner. I had the fight 117-110; 116-111 max. That being said, both fighters need a good rest because that fight was tough. When asked about Rios, Soto wasn't too enthusiastic about it. He was more concerned about taking a break. Since he fought four times this year, he feels he needs some rest. After this fight, I don't blame him.

                Make it happen 4th of July weekend. Give Rios another warm up fight in the meanwhile.

                  I still prefer Soto fighting Marquez so the real Lighweight Champ will appear!

                  Marquez has fought Lighweight contenders;

                  but not other Champ in 135lbs division!

                    Soto has been struggling ever since moving to 135. I see Rios beating him pretty handily
