Comments Thread For: Golden Boy Has Superstar Aspirations For Saul Alvarez

By Jake Donovan - ‘Win today, look good the next time’ need not apply in the search for a future superstar.

Though just 20 years young, Saul Alvarez already gets it.

Merely looking good today means less interest the next time you appear. Alvarez (34-0-1, 26KO) always wants to put on a show for his fans – and to date has yet to disappoint in that regard.

In that vain, there is perhaps a little extra pressure to look good against Lovemore N’Dou, a former titlist who doesn’t always place entertainment value at the top of his priority list. In addition to his normal televised showcase on Mexico network giant Televisa, the rising young Mexican contender will also be available to stateside viewers, as the bout will air live on HBO Latino from Veracruz, Mexico.

Alvarez has appeared on the network before, but only via tape-delay. This will be his first test run in real time, paving the way for big plans that promoter Golden Boy Promotions has in store for him in the near future. [Click Here To Read More]

He has the potential to be bigger then Ali. Golden Boy needs to bring him along slowly though, the worst thing that can happen is he becomes another Vargas who peaks at 23 years old. He'll be ready to beat up on the washed up Miguel Cotto around December 2011 January 2012 put the fight in the staples center where mexican americans can see him. From there keep him active with other washed up fighters until JCC jr comes around.

I think GBP will be smart enough to keep Saul Alvarez away from Cotto and Pacquiao for the time being, especially since both are promoted by Bob Arum. All signs are pointing to Shane Mosley getting the Pacquiao fight (I would much rather see him fight Berto or JMM instead) and Cotto fighting Margarito again so if those two get signed, we might just see Canelo in with Berto which would be a good fight. Berto is fast with only moderate power so he probably won't be able to hurt Canelo and I think this fight will tell us more about both these guys and where they might be headed. It would be a good fight for HBO as well (and not PPV)...

I think Cotto Knocks him out but its not a given, Saul can Fight and fighting Miguels brother will have helped him,a tough fight he will be better for in general but also because Jose Miguel fights alot like Miguel, only not quite as good. Still i like Cotto to break him

Im a Saul Alvarez fan tho, i like the kid

I was at Staples Center that night he fought Baldomir. As soon as that crowd went nuts for Alvarez.. I knew right away that this kid is a star.. He seriously stole the show that night from EVERYBODY that fought that night. Oscar was right about all that crowd being there for him. I can say that Victor Ortiz, Daniel Ponce Deleon, and Shane Mosley got awesome reactions from the crowd when they came out and won their fights (Although Mosley didnt get the win). But it was Alvarez that got the BIG HUGE reaction and stole the show and was the star that night. He keeps winning and hes got a bright future ahead of him.
