i guess the ref is just securing the boxer's safety. if pac punches with his 2 hands altogether, he is opening himself totally defenseless. those two punches have no power at all to inflict pain against clottey.

the ref is just reminding pac about this move, the way a boxer takes his back against his enemy. one important rule in boxing: PROTECT YOURSELF AT ALL TIMES.

        Kabayan,

I don't think that's the reason why the refs gave Pac warning. I think it is more of the shock value + the novelty of it that the ref doesn't know what to do.

Because we all know (as I might add to your posting) that it won't hurt Clottey but perhaps since it isn't also illegal but the brashness of it that it might be "insulting"??? I don't know.

it was for boxers safety...... Simultaneous Pacquiao punches from each side would have smashed Clottey's g**** like head like a.... g****.

Clottey is lucky the left landed 1/2 a nanosecond after the right or, he'd be dead.

I dunno, but i dont see the refs gesture as a warning that would give him a penalty but a reminder not to do it again.

anyway, one thing is for sure. pompyang is an unusual sighting that the even the ref, got surprised by pac's move

If you see the Sky Sports version, they say it is illegal and that's why the ref stopped it.

Yeah thats the one I watched first and I remember them saying it was illegal.

Possibly because it can be made into a 'grabbing' motion ?
