No, not really. I thought you said more important than who is when? Mosley was coming off a controversial defeat over an aging Oscar. Wasn't like he was considered some pound for pound king. I'd say it was a good win.
Again, timing and result. Very good win for Cotto and proved his legitimacy. But Mosley wasn't considered some pound for pounder at the time. It was more about whether Cotto could step up.
Couldn't have said it any better myself.
Excuse me if rankings and P4P dont mean much to me. Explain to me again how a win over a Mosley who struggled against DLH in 2003, becomes a great win once Mosley has turned 38? The Margarito win was a great win, but does it suddenly erase the fact Mosley struggled with sub par competition prior to the Margarito fight? I mean there is a reason Mosley wasnt some P4Per at the time Cotto beat him and thats because he didnt deserve to be there. A win over Margarito doesnt change that for me.

Your questions are why I say...more important than who is when. Period. Who was Margarito before he beat Cotto? Just another champ who hadn't beaten anyone elite. You see where I'm going with this.
Was Shane Mosley old? Yes (as he was for the Margarito fight).
Was Shane Mosley inactive? Yes.
Was he considered the best fighter at welter? Yes.
Was he considered one of the best fighters in the world? Yes.
Was he the biggest challenge in the division not named Manny? Yes.
Was he avoided by Team Pacquiao? Yes.
Was he perceived to be someone Floyd didn't want to fight? Yes.
Did he get his ass royally cut? Yes.
So take from that what you will. You think it's only a "decent" win? Good for you. I tend to think it meant a lot more.
He was the biggest threat in the division based off a performance that happened 15 months prior.
That is the key here.
Everything about Mosley was based off a fight that happened two Januaries ago.
His threat, his p4p ranking, his welterweight ranking.... everything was based off of something that happened 15 mos. ago...
Against Mora I think we saw the real 2010 Mosley...
If Mosley would of came back and looked great against Mora, or even knocked him out... then I would be inclined to agree, that Floyd had everything to do with the way Mosley looked...
But it wasn't JUST Floyd..
Mosley wasn't going to look great against Mora period. At his age, putting in the kind of training he did for Floyd and then taking that butt whipping...it was over after that. That was his last. And it wasn't good enough. It never would've been anyway. But getting to your other point, was he old and inactive? Yes. Like Floyd was past his prime and had one fight in three years. If Team Pacquiao figured Mosley was just old and inactive, they would've struck while the iron was hot. But they will now. Why?

First of all I don't care about Pacquiao at the moment.
You can say Floyd had one fight in 3 years.
But he did have a fight just the previous September.
In September, Floyds inactivity came to an end.
He had a fight... a fight he didn't lose a single round in.
EVERYTHING about Mosley, was based off something 15 MONTHS ago.
His p4p ranking.
His welterweight ranking
His "threat" as a fighter
Everything was based off of a fight that happened 15 months prior.
It is not that far fetched to see that Mosleys realistic in-ring ability was not on par with how highly he was ranked.
