If anything, Pacquiao is relatively more of a Pryor than anyone else (I've used this comparison many times in these forums).

Pacquiao's usage of the combinations in a machine-gun like fashion and from multi-angle is a classic Pryoresque!

I think Marquez is more of a rich man's version of Rocky Marciano. A rock-em-sock-em-in-your-face fighter.

i can get down with that. i see that in pacquiao, i think i remember you or someone else making some of the same comparisons.

my only thing is, pacquiao doesn't fight like pryor though, inside fighting is almost non existent, where as like pryor jmm stand inside and ****s it out, pacquiao likes to tie up and let the ref break them apart.

and his chin is in question, although, i think he's pretty much answered those questions in recent years, pac's chin has gotten better with his defense, skills, and his confidence.

but, he is far from a marciano, though. marciano took two to get one, pacquiao doesn't resemble that fight style at all. also, pacquiao is a gritty fighter like marciano or pryor or even marquez, he's more of a finesse type fighter, and although marquez has finesse, he's gritty.

dont' get me wrong fabie, pac has resemblance, i just see more in JMM than anyone else at the moment. katsidis is close, but his chin is the checkmate on that one. which i just want to say, mad props to katsidis for an awesome fight last night, a vitamin B12 shot for boxing......!!!!!

I was going to say this, if anyone is like Pryor nowadays, it is Pacquiao. I don't get how Marquez is like Pryor at all.

Pryor was more of an aggressive whirlwind style of fighter, less technical than Marquez.

Not really sure which past fighters I'd compare Marquez with. Maybe a mixture of Arguello and Sanchez with his terrific technique and counterpunching.

I would say Arguello, a classy boxer but not a boxer that relies on quick hands more along the lines of range, timing and technique.

Also both were boxers that boxed to get theirs not to totally freeze out the other guy.

They had different body types though as Arguello is long and lean while JMM is short and squat so some of the things they do are tailored to what suits their physicality.

A similarity between the two is that they (or their management) both turned down big fights and it looked like they were more or less the "ignored" talents compared to other big names, but eventually got big fights later on.

Pryor turning down fights with Duran & Leonard, Marquez turning down the Pacquiao rematch and Hamed after Hamed initially avoided him (although I hear JMM was offered the Hamed bout on short notice). Pryor eventually got big fights with Arguello. After it seemed Marquez had shot himself in the foot with the John fight, he ended up fighting Barrera, Pacquiao again, and Mayweather in a span of two and a half years.
