I really get agitated by this, the only thing those 2 ever had in common with the great Winky Wright is a high guard!!Clottey is faster but barely ever, ever throws a punch!!Abraham has a high guard,no lateral movement & is as 1 dimensional as they get!!Winky had a superb jab & was physically stronger than almost everyone he fought,in his prime,he pressured fighters coming forward, pumping a stiff jab & talking people downall the while not being hurt by anything!!Knowledgeable fight fans feel free to add on to why Winky is far superior!!
Why do people try to compare Abraham and Clottey to Winky?

All three use the high guard as really their only defense, they have different offensive games but the same type of fighter would give all three problems.
If you can keep them in their guard they can't really do anything, and guys they can frustrate with that guard will most likely lose to them.
It is simple actually why people compare them.Comment

Floyd uses a high guard but that is by no means his only way of defense, he uses it with other things while these three use the high guard almost exclusively as their means of shutting down what another guy does.
Using a high guard is alright but if you strictly rely on that as your form of defense it can be turned into a weakness because you are basically letting the other guy get off.Comment

That version of Winky cannot be compared to a prime version. He was old and coming off of a long layoff. He had no answer for a younger, faster fighter with 20 rounds of stamina.
Although a prime Winky vs Williams would have been interesting. Williams sure as hell wouldn't have respected his power.Comment

doesn't matter. winky got outworked by soliman but didn't get the nod.
maybe... but same result. winky gets outworkedAlthough a prime Winky vs Williams would have been interesting.
winky has no power so yes.Williams sure as hell wouldn't have respected his power.Comment

The Winky from the Williams fight was not anything close to prime or even active. He was just a name at that point. Anything close to a prime Winky wouldn't get outworked, he threw with his opponents.Comment
