David Lemieux vs Purnell Gates????? WHY?

Why is David Lemieux going too fight Purnell Gates Dec3? Gates is ready for his SSI check. Gates' last four opponents have a combined record of 27 wins and 57 losses.
DL is ranked #20 World Middleweight. He should be fighting #10 Darren Barker - not #284 Purnell Gates. What's to gain here for DL? Anybody?

stay busy fight, and dont forget its the promotoers job to get the maximum amount a fighter is worth during his career, which means fighting some cans for a easy check in between hard bouts (if managed correctly). David L. has star power in his home, so this is a stay busy, pay check fight.

Exactly, and dont forget this guy is a kid for god sake. Only 21 one years old. He fought in october and will fight again in december. Did you expected him to fight Martinez in december at 21 years old. If at 30 years old he's still fighting mediocre fighter (hi Bute) I will not defend him, but right now, give him some time please.

Darren barker is a glass jaw fighter no wonder you want Lemiuex to fight him. Barker is wanted all over europe as cannon fodder but is nowhere to be found.

          Clearly a stay busy fight.

          Kid will step up.

The had Ishe Smith lined up, which would have been a good test. Ishe declined though last week due to the inability to prepare in time/

Also Yvon Michel ( Lemieux's manager) told at a Montreal tv show that he's beginning to have some problems to find opponent for Lemieux. Lemieux doesn't bring a ton of money cause he's not a star yet but he's very dangerous and ko his opponent.

High risk low reward, it will be tough for him to get the big fights, he will have to take the long run, stay active and eventually become the number one aspirant to get championship fight.

He got an eliminator title fight in February or April for a shot at Sergio Martinez.

He will KO Gates in 1 or 2 round.

The 3rd december fight was confirmed only today, he was suppose to fight on december 3rd but they didn't find any opponent who agreed before the last 72 hours.

Lemieux is a KO artist and not a lot of top-10 guys want to fight him for not so much money.

Exactly. Ishe Smith said he would like to fight Lemieux, if given more time. Since Lemieux is supposed to fight in February and then in April against Rubio, Smith would be a great fit for the February fight.

Also GYM will have a little more money than they had for the Camacho and Gates fights, because ESPN will buy next year's fights (Feb. and April). Makes it easier to find opponents!

I wish they could have found someone better but he is only 21 we have to keep that in mind no rush. What happened to the proposed Rubio fight?
