So was Roy Jones JR a Heavyweight world champion or not?

According to the average RJJ fan, nobody will ever be able to be a former MW champion and HW champ again.

Yet he didn't win the title from Lewis, he won it from ruiz.

He was the champ because of some creative cherrypicking, but then he couldn't fight anyone else at HW?

So was he a HW champ or not?

This is worse than when people said he was the lineal champ at lt HW, when he never fought Dariusz Michalczewski.

In reality, wasn't he more like a paper titlist at HW and a popular belt holder at lt HW?

Lets be honest with ourselves here.

He was the WBA heavyweight champion, but not the lineal champion or undisputed.

    No catchweights.

    top 10 heavyweight.

Yes, he was A heavyweight champ. Because he won a heavyweight title. At heavyweight. No catchweight, no vacant bull**** belt that was created for that fight.

      End of argument.

I'd like to add he won it from a top 5 ranked HW.

but that doesn't make it not a paper title

It was an obvious opportunistic cherrypick, and it was obvious he didn't want any part of any serious heavyweights, so no, he wasn't a hw champion.

But at least there was no catchweight.
