I very much agree with this statement. Martinez is a very good boxer but Pac/Floyd have been doing their thing for the better part of a decade against guys better than Pwill/Pavlik. Not trying to downplay what his man has achieved, however, I think people are really caught up because he's had very exciting wins RECENTLY.

IMO he was overrated before KO'ing Williams because he had not beaten any one yet out side of Pavlik who old man Hopkins had already beaten. But now that he stopped Williams like that, he should be as highly rated as he is. Give the guy his props.

Let's see him fight a true middle weight. Don't get me wrong Martinez is a really good boxer and may be at the top of the p4p list one day, but I want to see this guy fight a little more before I make a decision on him. We all know what happened with Victor Ortiz.

Kelly Pavlik: 36-2 (32 kos), WBC and WBO mw champ of the world from 2007-2010, career mw fighter as well

Sergio Martinez: 46-2-2 (25 kos), WBC lmw champion, WBC and WBO mw champion and recognized lineal champ, hasn't lost a fight in 10 years, knocked out Paul Williams (never been done before and Williams had a 6 inch height and reach advantage on Martinez), had no amateur career and didn't start boxing till he was 20 ,fought in obscurity for years in Europe before even getting a shot on HBO.

Victor Ortiz: 28-2 (22 kos), never won a major title, was an HBO hypejob from day one (I called Maidana over Ortiz too by the way), and had an extensive amateur career.

Ortiz is still raw and barely tested, Martinez has 10 times the experience that Ortiz has and had to earn the fame he has, Ortiz had it spoon fed to him.
