WBO and WBA lightweight (135 pounds) titlist Juan Manuel Marquez (51-5-1, 37 knockouts) of Mexico has faced both Manny Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KOs) and Floyd Mayweather (41-0, 25 KOs), and told FanHouse "For me, Mayweather" -- not Pacquiao -- "is the best, pound-for-pound."
Pacquiao's promoter, Top Rank CEO, Bob Arum, has told FanHouse that Marquez is a strong consideration to face Pacquiao after six-time champion Mayweather and Shane Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs), the latter of whom already has lost to Mayweather.
Marquez has Saturday night's HBO televised triple-header promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in which he is main event opposite WBO interim king Michael Katsidis (27-2, 22 KOs) of Australia.
"I know that it's going to be a good fight," said Marquez of his bout with Katsidis. "Probably the Fight of the Year."
Marquez, however, still would like a third match up with Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KOs), who is the WBO welterweight (147 pounds) king, against whom he has battled to a draw as well as a disputed split-decision loss.
Nicknamed "The Mexicutioner" for his dominance of Mexican boxers, Pacquiao is coming off of a Nov. 13, unanimous decision triumph over Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KOs) of Mexico for the WBC's vacant junior middleweight (154 pounds) belt. Pacquiao earned his eighth crown in as many different weight divisions against Margarito, as well as his 13th straight win with eight knockouts during that run.
Fan House caught up to Marquez during an open workout at the Trinity Boxing Club in Hollywood.
