Because the fighter has to have an interesting story in and outside of the ring. They don't make movies just because a fighter is the best or great. Micky Ward has an interesting life story, which the film most likely focuses on.
A movie on RJJ would be boring. Oh, a middle class black kid grows up with a normal life and becomes a great boxer. It just wouldn't be a good movie, as great a fighter as he was...Comment

Funny thing is the Gatti fights are not even going to be in this movie, it's his career before that. To be honest his life and brother's troubles make for a compelling story for a hollywood movie.Comment
