I'm from Philly and am thinking about joining a local gym just for conditioning and and to stay in shape..but also to learn the sweet science.

My question is am i too old to start and possibly fight amateur by the time i'm 25?

This would be more of a hobby than a profession for me..and i guess i could make some cash on the side.

    What do you guys think?

It's not late man, also you don't need anyone to tell you what to do, if you want to do it, just do it, you don't lose anything trying it.

Just look at boxers like Nate Campbell he began at 25, or Anthony Mundine 25 i believe too, or Rocky Marciano he made his pro debut at 25, and began boxing at like 23, and there are lots and lots of examples like that.

Sergio Martinez began boxing at 21, if you have the talent and the will the age doesn't matter.

          Good Luck man!

this advice you ask and get from your trainer. if you work hard in the gym and dedicated its never too late. you can turn pro at 40 if you can get a liscense. whether you become a champion is up to you and your camp
