Comments Thread For: Miguel Acosta-Armando Cordoba is Set For November 25

It was announced in Managua, Nicaragua - to a heavy surprise - that career journeyman Armando "El Policia" Cordoba (24-41, 18KOs) of Panama would be Thursday's opponent for world lightweight champion (135 pounds) Miguel 'Aguacerito' Acosta (27-3-2, 21KOs) of Venezuela. The fight is scheduled as a ten round non-title affair. Acosta-Cordoba will be part of the WBA's annual convention, which is ongoing in the country. The WBA's card will take place in Pharaohs Casino, located on the highway to Masaya.

This is actually a step in the right direction. A lot of "champions" would get this sanctioned as a title defense. At least it's a non-title fight. About half of the so-called "title defenses" sanctioned today are bull**** mismatches that, 30 or 40 years ago, would be non-title warm-up bouts
