Comments Thread For: Bradley-Alexander: Tempers Begin To Rise Over Venue

Trainer and manager Kevin Cunningham, who handles WBC junior welterweight champion Devon Alexander, is starting to get upset with the way his fighter's upcoming unification with Timothy Bradley is playing out. The fight, scheduled for January 29, appeared to have a set venue, with the 12,000-seat Chafetz Arena on the St. Louis University campus in Alexander's hometown of St. Louis playing host.

Why not a fucking neutral venue...the big name fighters don't even get "hometown" advantages, why should these fuckers get it?

This has gone on for too long.

I want Shaw vs Cunningham on the undercard.

Even a one round affair would be OK.

      Oh, and no ref.

The reason big names dont get hometown fights is because casinos (LV and AC) pay a high site fee to those fighters. The site fee are usually more than what they would get on the gate from a hometown fight. These casinos usually give away a lot of tickets to encourage high rollers to play.

However, non-big name fighters dont get this luxury. Casinos dont pay them because they dont think the tickets will attract gamblers. So to make the most $, these fighters do what they can to make this highest gate and usually that means fighting in one guys back yard.

As a good example of this, Kelly Pavlik before his problems fought in Atlantic City a lot. The casinos knew Y'town fans would drive to AC to watch him fight, stay in their casino, gamble, etc. When he fought Rubio in Y'town, it was well documented that he did so at a substantial discount to his normal fights in AC. Regardless of why he fought Rubio in Y'town (HBO didnt want to pay for it, his draw power was hurt after losing to B-Hop, etc.), he made less money at home than he would have at a Casino.

Since neither of these guys are draws aside from hardcore fans, they need to find ways to increase $ and fighting in St. Louis where Alexander is already shown to be a draw will add to both fighters pockets.

I understand why bradley doesnt want to fight in st louis. But a big fight
like this should have a big crowd. It will only draw in st louis.

it's not fair but it does make the most sense for drawing the most fans. i think alexander should give bradley some of his purse for having hometown advantage. bradley should be very hesitant after kotelnik clearly beat alexander but was robbed but that could have been because alexander is an hbo fighter more than anything.

Should be in St. Louis. Why not? They could fill it up. 12k. Idk what they would do in a nuetral place. Aint that much of a big deal though 2 me. Tim is so confident he's gonna whip Devon's ass. Show some balls and go to his hometown and do it.
