My thoughs on FMJ/MP vs Martinez

Ok this board has been going nuts with Martinez fever. Understandably so....he murked P Williams.

However let's be real here. This guy walks around at 175+ btw fights. He beat Pavlik at 160 and slapped Williams at 158. Why do MP or FMJ need to fight this man to prove themselves?? It's just ridiculous.

Manny would get murked by Martinez at 156+.....absolutely murked. It's a terrible matchup. Martinez is a SP. SP don't like to fight other SP's just as much as ortho fighters don't like it. There goes one advantage. Martinez can fight inside, ouside and off the back foot. He was holding and hitting Paul inside. Manny can't fight inside or effectively off the back foot. He relies on his footwork to get him in , out and around. Martinez has quick feet and hands. Clottey, Cotto and Margarito all hit Manny and they are slow of hand and foot. Martinez would land way too much and with the power he displayed against Williams, he would hurt Pac...badly. I don't see the fight going longer than 5 rds.....and that's not trolling. Finally, he is too small. I know Martinez is the same height/reach or thereabouts of Margarito, however at this stage of his career he can't make 150 pounds like Margo just did. HE IS BIGGER AND BETTER RIGHT NOW.

As for Floyd he has a better chance, but again he is a touch too small. He walks around at 156-159 pounds soaking wet. Once he starts serious training he won't be able to maintain a weight over 154 pounds, meainig he needs mucle gains, which could compromise speed against a speedy opponent. He has very little weakness to exploit in Martinez other than his hands being low and him being off balance when he moves at times. Martinez fights inside, outside and more importantly he can fight backing up. Floyd can't sit in the pocket all night against a bigger fighter, who can fight inside. Judah made Floyd come to him.....this gave the southpaw an advantage and enabled him to set the pace initially. Floyd is aggressive against SP and usually always get's hit hard at least once or twice. He was buzzed against Corley, Judah and Sharmba Mitchell by str8 left or right hook. He will get clipped at some stage. His advantage comes in his balance and right hand + DEFENSE. That makes this fight COMPETITIVE and viable. However at 156 + Martinez would still have to be favoured. This fight is more viable than a Pac vs Martinez fight.

But again there is no need to prove themselves against Martinez. Pac would be much better served accepting OST with a 5 minute cutoff before the fight than fighting Sergio. Pac vs Floyd at 147 is a 50-50 fight, maybe favouring Pac at this stage of their careers. It's ridiculous to assert these 2 need to fight Martinez......utterly ridiculous. Fight Williams, who maintains he can make 147......but Martinez would have struggled to get to 158.

    RIDICULOUS!!!!!!

I don't think Floyd or Manny has anything to prove by fighting Martinez. But if I were Sergio, I'd be calling them out for a big payday since he is like 35 and might not have much time left in the game. Either that or Martinez should set his sights at 168, although he'd have to jump ship to showtime to get the big fights

Sergio is the only one that will give either a huge challange

Also he will most likely be the #3 P4P fighter and will give them the Legit lineal MW championship

But it just dreaming because i would rather they stay at WW

I love the fact that i have been following sergio for some time and he has finally come out to the mainstream. I would love to see Floyd and Sergio at 154 where Sergio dominated the divison. I still believe he an make that weight, and if anyone saw him when he beat kermits ass (and was given a draw!!!) would know why he is more dangereous at 154 against a smaller opponent. Floyd would have to be very careful

A Manny/Sergio bout would be great to watch. Both southpaws and quick! A catchweight would be ok, just as long no titles are involved only to make a good fight for fans. You can see Sergio doesn't want to be labeled as someone who picks on people smaller than him.

Why would Floyd be worried about the size difference? Early in his career, he was the smaller of his opponents. An impressive win over Martinez would be a deep notch on his belt/legacy. He would have to have a perfect night to pull it off. IMO Sergio by KO, factors would be his southpaw stance, quickness, and size. Its also a show of respect to Floyd by Sergio wanting to "test" his skills against him.

This would be the only case where I would not complain about a catchweight. Or simply make it a 154lb fight.
