I guess Martinez must have changed his mind on facing Pacquiao

"Martinez admitted he expected a tougher, longer fight, too, but the WBC middleweight champion proved that he has punching power that defies his knockout ratio. The sensational nature of his victory left Martinez eager to prove he is the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world, though he and his promoter know it’ll be difficult to get the much smaller Manny Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38 KOs) or Floyd Mayweather Jr. (41-0, 25 KOs) to fight him.

Martinez is a 160-pound title-holder, but his rematch with Williams was contested at a catch weight of 158 pounds and he can get beneath the junior middleweight limit of 154 pounds. If Pacquiao and Mayweather finally fight, Martinez might be left without a high-profile opponent to fight in 2011.

"I plan to have two or three more fights before I retire," Martinez said, "and I would like one of those fights to be against Pacquiao or Mayweather."

This is an article from today...and I wonder what made Martinez change his mind? I think they get the sense that the Bute fight may be impossible to make, due to conflicting networks, and at Sergio's age and the fact he doesn't plan on fighting much longer....he might just go for a big payday instead of facing someone like sturm.

Dude deserves a huge payday as he has paid his dues. Even if he takes someone like Cotto for a multi million dollar payday....I wouldn't even criticize Sergio for that move.

He's too big for both IMO. But cant blame him. He'll get 6 to $8M fighting one of them.

Money talks, that's all. But this fight will NEVER happen. No way will Arum ever let it happen, much less Roach

Did Martinez even say he would never fight Manny? The only post fight video I saw, he said he wants to be #1 P4P and then his interpreter or manager/whoever went on a rant about no Pacquiao, mismatch, too small, etc but Sergio himself never said any of that.

Pacquiao @ 154 was a big mistake. Roach and Ariza thought he'd make 150 with no problem, but that proved wrong. I think the Margarito fight was an experiment that turned out successful in the end, but failed in the weight factor. I don't want to see these two great fighters torture their bodies just to meet in the middle.

I read that exact quote yesterday in some article right after the fight, but when I rewatched post fight interview, he never said that.

True. That's what happened. I think Dibella has more pull and he is really pushing for this as he knows Martinez will retire soon.

Like he can beat floyd? Even if he did, all that proves is a bigger man beating the little guy. Its like the klitz beating the shiet out sergio and claim it ATG.
