    Stop forcing labels on Martinez

There are many people here speculating about Martinez's ethnicity based on his appearance in order to further their own racial agenda, but I've never heard him actually discuss race or specifically identify as white or other. The one thing we do know for certain is that he's a proud of being from Argentina and views himself as a representative of the Latino community first and foremost:

"Esperar a ver si los latinos pueden estar pendientes del combate, porque hay que levantar el boxeo latino que viene como de capa caída. Y a toda la comunidad latina aquí y a todos los argentinos, a la ciudad de Quilmes, especialmente a mi familia y a toda la gente de mi ciudad en la provincia de Buenos Aires".

I sincerely doubt he identifies with all the racists out there who view his recent victory as some sort of demonstration of white racial superiority over blacks. Otherwise, he would have thanked the lowlifes at stormfront and castefootball after his victory instead of the Latino community.

The fact is it's been blown way out of proportion. Martinez is simply white by the eye but is of latino heritage, this is something people don't understand. I blame this whole fiasco on the ******ity of Bernard Hopkins, his views are worthless and blinkered.

this whole thing is pretty ridiculous. martinez recently demolished two americans. one happened to be white, while the other was black. he's an equal opportunity offender. he doesnt give a **** about race, he'll take you out either way.

This all started with the African-American remarks made by Bernard and the whole others out there regarding Pacquiao. Now it seems to have boiled over and so many are now riding the racial train.

I never even knew that blacks segregated themselves themselves between those who are African-American and those that were born outside the country of USA.

Why couldn't Hopkins just say that Pacquiao was avoiding slick black fighters instead of "Pacquiao avoiding African-American slick fighters". Now that opens a lot of questions..

Now, you've got white supremacist owning Martinez as white just because he looks white.

How sad that boxing now has come to this..
