Question about the Marquez to Floyd comparison in regards to Manny

Personally, I scoff at the "if X fighter did this, imagine what FLOYD would do" approach. We see this A LOT on boxing forums, and not just NSB. The key word in the sentence is "imagine", which is sad in and of itself. Marquez is not Floyd, nor is Floyd Marquez. JMM exchanges a lot more, and has a rare gift of countering mid-exchange. He's a classic Mexican fighter, who's not afraid of taking to give, but he's also an amazing technician, and that's a unique skill set, and Floyd doesn't have that.
Floyd's a terrific technician in his own right, but he does it differently. He doesn't want to get hit (who does?), so he wouldn't open up to counter mid-Pacquiao flurry. He'd have to be first all night, or counter Pacquiao's first punch in the beginning of a combination hard enough to stop that combination in its tracks. He could very well do this, but he could also let Pacquiao throw the combo, and find him elsewhere when he tries to fire back. This fight, which we'll talk each other to death about forever, is a toss-up for me. The greatest offense in boxing against the greatest defense. Manny and Floyd are just opposite sides of the same coin. That's truly how I rationalize this perpetual debate, and how I keep my head about me.Last edited by Stigma; 11-20-2010, 05:37 PM. Marquez got blasted and shocked in the first round of there 24 rounds inside the ring together.. he only got knocked down once in the 23 rounds after..
Also Floyd is far bigger then Marquez (as saw when they fought)
He also has superior hand speed and better accuracyComment
