I was really surprised by the level of fights that i saw and the attendance at the World Trade Center of Mexico City was pretty good, i had the chance to watch yesterday the fights between Mexico City Guerreros vs Memphis Force.
The Guerreros won the 5 fights (bantam, lightweight,middle, lightheavy, heavyweight) but i had my doubts with 2 decisions, the lightweight fight between Romero of Mexico and the mongol fighter of the Force Munkh-Erdene Uranchimgeg (every team needs in his lineup 1 foreign fighter), i saw the Mongol winning a close desicion.
The middleweight fight, i also saw winning the Force fighter by a close desicion, but they gave the fight to the foreign fighter of Guerreros the brazilian Yamaguchi Florentino over Christopher Jones.
It seems they are scoring it Pro Style, there are not points for every punch like the amateurs, and this clearly favoured the mexican fighters with their pro style of boxing, the americans were really shocked fighting this kind of fight in the amateurs,
There were 5 rounds of 3 minutes.
And the other other 3 fights stole the night, i specially liked the first fight the bantam fight, between Braulio Avila of Guerreros versus Ernesto Garza of the Force, Avila could be a really good pro fighter a possible mexican champ, Avila won clearly but it was exciting because Garza was always in the fight.
And i really tought that the weak link for the mexican team will be their heavier weight fighters even tough they have foreigners that could possibly substitute the mexican fighters in the light heavy and heavyweight division if they get injured and could not fight the next fights.
But ooh boy i was wrong!
The lightheavyweight fight between the mexican Francisco Ortega of Guerreros and Robert Brant of the Force, i tought it will be a shotout in favour of Brant, that fought kinda of like Andre Ward, the first round he dominated the mexican, but after that the roughouse tactics and agressive style of Guerrero clearly took their tool on Brant, he even put Brant on the canvas one time, and won a fair unanimous decision.
The last fight i also tought the american figther will win, Javonta Charles took the first round , but after that mexican heavyweight fighter of Guerreros Juan "El Chiquilin" Iracheta or Martinez ( i have seen news using those 2 surnames for him), clearly won the public, and won the figth Chris Arreola style , altough he's not overweight like Arreola, but he looks like he just shed alot of weight to get to 237 lbs, because he had no muscle definition at all, Javonta Charles had a weight of 209 lbs, the Mexican put the american on the canvas one time and with his agressive style beat clearly the american, altough the judges gave a split decision instead of UD in favour of the mexican, i don't know what the other judge saw.
All 5 figths went to the long route, 25 rounds of boxing withouth headgear, i really like it a good night of boxing,and the people in attendance were really into it.
For the latin americans, i saw the fights on TDN (Televisa Deportes Network), they will be showing the fights there.
And i wrote all this because i didn't saw anyone talking about it, and there were some good fights, the great thing is that the figths are between fighters of the same level, and their not trying to protect their records fighting hand pick opposition.
