And now Bernard Hopkins enters the fray in one of the most contentious fights in boxing history.
Unfortunately, nobody is throwing any punches.
Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are taking jabs outside the ring, since nobody seems to be able to agree on the terms of engagement.
B-Hop has a theory. He says that Pacquiao is avoiding African-American fighters.
I find this odd, since it very clearly seems to me that Mr. Mayweather is one doing the ducking.
But Hopkins thinks otherwise.
Have a listen:
“Floyd Mayweather would beat Manny Pacquiao because the styles that African-American fighters — and I mean, black fighters from the streets or the inner cities — would be successful,” Hopkins said in an interview with Fanhouse.com. “I think Floyd Mayweather would pot-shot Pacquiao and bust him up in between the four-to-five punches that Pacquiao throws and then set him up later on down the line.”
Hopkins dismisses the fact that Pacquiao defeated Joshua Clottey of Ghana earlier this year, because “Clottey is ‘black,’ but not a ‘black boxer’ from the states with a slick style.”
If Hopkins wants to take a stand for African-American fighters, I suggest he convince Mayweather to step away from his momma’s skirt, where he is apparently hiding, and fight Pac Man.
It’s odd that Hopkins wants to turn this into a race war, when Mayweather seems to be waving the white flag of surrender even before the battle begins.
