An IBF junior lightweight title eliminator between five-time former world featherweight champion Manuel Medina (64-14, 30 KOs) and undefeated Jose Miguel Cotto (26-0, 18 KOs) in Ponce, Puerto Rico, was scratched today when Cotto was unable to make the 130lb limit. Cotto failed three times to make weight over a three hour period, then opted not to fight. Medina will now become the IBF's top available contender to challenge the winner of the March 17 unification clash between Marco Antonio Barrera and Robbie Peden. Medina will be paid his full purse for the aborted fight. The pay-per-view event will go on as scheduled, with Hugo Cazares (20-3-1, 14 KOs) defending his WBO junior flyweight championship against Alex "Nene" Sanchez (31-5-1, 21 KOs) in the main event. The card will be televised live exclusively by DirecTV in the United States and available for $29.95. The telecast is presented by Guilty Boxing, while the card is promoted by Best PR Boxing Promotions.

Damn! This is sad. I was hoping Cotto would be meeting the Winner of MAB/Penden TUSSLE after he dispose off the OLD MEDINA.
Jose's chance to be a major player at 135 was blown off.Comment

You are absolutely right the guy is untested . . . and MEDINA could be a very solid test for him . . . and should be his ticket to the big names out there . . . unfortunately his chance is now derailed.Comment
