10 years ago it was belt or nothing, now it seems no one cares about belts anymore because people know who the best are. And if there is a belt involved it's icing on the cake. Which is a good thing and a sad thing. It's sad that all the organizations are so corrupt no one cares about them. But good that you don't have to have one to be seen as the best.
Does anyone care about belts anymore?

Real boxing fans understand that belts are shit without a good fighter defending them. "Title fight" will always score bigger on the marquee than non title fights with the exact same fighters. But in terms of relevance, nobody worries about belts. It's about the best fighting the best. -
Basically no, I often forget when I sit down to watch a big fight that there is a belt involved at all. For the minor title fights where they are fighting for the Interim Silver WBA Challanger belt I certainly don't care an ounce...Comment

It means something to me if you win the Ring Belt and/or unify belts.
Owning a single alphabet belt is usually the correct first step, then ideally the idea is to unify the division, imo.
what pisses me the fuuck off is when guys get stripped for attempting to unify, like bradly vs alexander for example, or cotto vs margarito, etc. Nothing more annoying than the fighters themselves doing the right thing that everyone wants only for the pieces of ***** organizations to punish them for it.Comment

no, belts are silly nowadays and just about everyone goes by rankings and records instead, i domnt get howthe belt orgs have any leverage anymore, they commited suicide penny pinching all the champions into disputed status
im sure they mean something to the fighters though, theyre still a symbolic goalLast edited by Toe Injury; 11-19-2010, 02:26 PM.Comment
