If Mayweather vs Pacquiao can't be made?
I'll be the first to admit that I'd love to see Pacquiao fight the winner of Williams Martinez, but I know that's not going to happen. I know Mosley looked bad against Mora, but before he destroyed Margarito, he looked bad against Mayorga.
I knew the Mayweather/Mosley fight would be one-sided and knew Pac/Marg would be the same way, but I've always thought that of all the come forward fighters, Pacquiao would have a tough time with Shane Mosley.
Shane Mosley is one of the few fighters who can match Pacquiao in the speed department. This is important, because Pacquiao's greatest weapon against his last string of opponents has been his superior speed.
Mayweather dominated Mosley for the simple reason that besides the 2nd (I forget what round it was to be honest) Mosley could not find Mayweather and Mayweather found Shane all night with his pinpoint accuracy.
Pacquiao doesn't have that same accuracy or defense and is going to get hit by Mosley. Mosley in my opinion hits alot harder than any opponent Pacquiao has faced and more importantly, he hit harder than Pacquiao (I think lol) and has just as good if not better of a chin than Margarito.
One big advantage Pac does have is his footwork is light years better than Shane's, but when the fight gets into close quarters I think Shane's clinching ability might be able to slow down Pacquiao.
Another advantage for Mosley is he will have a good size advantage. I know all of Pac's opponents have had size advantages, but Pacquiao has been able to exploit their inferior speed. What Mosley presents is size AND speed.
Lastly, Shane Mosley has something Pac's other opponents didn't have and that's one punch KO power. Cotto and Margarito were hard hitters, but they are accumulation punchers. So, basically you had two slow guys who need to wear you down with punches to stop you. This was a recipe for disaster against a guy as fast as Pacquiao, who's hitting you over and over while you try to accumulate punches. Shane has the power to put down anyone in one or two shots.
I just think it's a classic case of styles make fights. I just hope it can be @ 147 though I suspect it will be at 154.
I'm not saying Mosley will win. Just saying he's a tough style match up due to his speed, size, power, and chin.
Shane's stamina has to be on point though.
