This thread is dedicated to the former Olympic gold medallist and former heavyweight title challenger Audley Harrison. He had the whole nation behind him after the Olympic victory and the heavyweight scene was in terror at the thought of Audley entering the professional ranks.
After a few tough defeats to the likes of the excellent rough tough Martin Rogan he finally achieved his first professional success winning the much coveted Prize fighter title, before shocking the world by winning the European championship in one of the most spectacular performance in recent years.
Over the weekend Audley took part in the biggest boxing event of the 21century against the world heavyweight champion David Haye, Audley Harrison had a great start to the fight, his defence was excellent Haye couldn’t even touch him in the first and second rounds, but Audley made a terrible mistake in those early rounds he forgot to throw punches back a mistake that he would later acknowledge.
As the fight went on Audley began to up his work rate throwing a jab and it was soon obvious that he was getting on top of the fight but that punch was his downfall he began to tire from his work rate and as he slowed down Haye landed a giant punch and Harrison fell, he got back up and was using his face to let Haye punch him self out but the ref stopped the fight at this point.
Harrison’s trainer admitted that his tactics were to throw nothing until the last round and then land a lucky punch.
He is going to try and target the weaker title holders in the division were his tactics could work.
