BBBofC may withhold part of Harrison's purse

I didn't see a thread about this, but then I didn't really look very hard so go ahead and merge it if it's a repost.

Audley Harrison is facing being hit hard financially following his abject defeat to WBA heavyweight champion David Haye on Saturday.

Harrison barely threw a punch before being stopped in three rounds, with the 39-year-old being criticised for his performance.

And the British Boxing Board of Control have confirmed that they will now "have to consider" withholding some or all of Harrison's purse for the fight.

"But rescinding some of Audley Harrison's purse is something which we will have to consider.

"You have to bear in mind it was such a letdown for the 22,000 at the MEN Arena and the thousands watching at home.

"The board have rescinded purses when we feel a fighter has not tried. He did nothing all night."
Seems a little bit cruel and reactionary considering the fight played out EXACTLY as most people with any sense thought it would.

Then they should have withheld hatton's purse for his performance against Pacquiao.

I think its harsh as Audley isnt a 100 punch a round guy at the best of times and i felt it was part of his game plan to frustrate haye and have him start lunging in so he could counter with one Big Left. He also pulled himself up off the floor when he could have stayed down. He was pathetic tho, he just was.

People shouldnt have listened to him, we've heard it all before. Haye to his credit said it was a mismatch from the start and never tried to talk Audley up like Klitchko is doing with Chisora (thats not a knock at Wlad btw)

Harrison should be paid but im glad the board have brought it up to remind these guys u gotta entertain

Uh.. unless they put some sort of "you had better throw X amount of punches per round" stipulation in the contract, they can't withold his money.

Then they should withhold Diva's purse as well and strip him off the fake title. It takes two to fix a fight. Not fair to penalize only one party to a fix, this was all Diva's doing, he even admitted it.

let him keep the money god damn! haye was the better man as expected... thats it! i actually would say he deserves the money ! Not for what he did in the ring but he helped to sell this fight bigtime thats why many people are upset cause they really thought harrison would be a challenge!
And i have to say i bought into it too for quite some time but after the last press conference you could see haye was relaxed and happy and harrison not any more!

They can. The same as an athletic commission in the us can take away a fighters license.

I wouldn't pay him. If anything, he should be paying boxing and its fans.
