Marg hurt Pacquiao badly enough to warrant some more rounds, but after round 7, and round 8, and round 9...it should've been stopped. Certainly after round 10 where Margarito got hurt with the right hook. That was ridiculous punishment you shouldn't have to take.
Vargas looked like an idiot in the post fight interview. Tony saying, "Yeah, as a Mexican, I never quit, blah, blah, blah...." and Vargas whooping and hollering behind him as if he'd won the fight. Idiot. That was a horrible beating he took. You know it was a savagely one-sided when the opposing fighter is pulling his punches. And if his facial damage didn't convince you, when they brought up punch zone stats, jeez...he took ana average of 130 punches on each side of the face and around 130 flush on the chin over 12 rounds.
That SCREAMS stop the fight...Laurence Cole was terrible. It's not that I wanted a Pacquiao TKO, I couldn't have cared less, Pacquiao was winning in any way. The punishment was severe. Just wait 'til you see it for anyone that hasn't...it was brutal.

As soon as his righ eye was mostly shut the ref, ring doctor and Garcia should've stopped it. Imagine fighting Pacquiao and trying to defend yourself from his lighting fast combinations with one 90% shut eye. Its in a word, cruel.Comment

Didnt Bayless allow Cotto to take a beatdown? That fight shouldve been stopped a lot earlier than last nights oneComment

Interesting assessment with the punch stats. True, Laurence Cole is notorious for letting fights go longer than they should, which is probably the reason he was hired to ref the bout imo. I haven't seen it yet, for obvious reasons, but by the sounds of it (and the aftermath photos) Pacquiao did some serious damage.Marg hurt Pacquiao badly enough to warrant some more rounds, but after round 7, and round 8, and round 9...it should've been stopped. Joe Cortez - Rounds 8 or 9
Jay Nady - Between 8 and 11
Kenny Bayless, Vic Drakulich - Rounds 10 or 11
Tony Weeks - Round 11
Laurence Core - An incompetent referee who shouldnt be given a job in a major stage.Comment

Actually, both fights should've been stopped around the same time. It was after or during the 9th round that Cotto's wife left the arena because by nonw Pacquiao was REALLY asserting himself. Cotto became severely affected the second knockdown, but he tried to box somewhat. He went to boxing so-so successfully, to holding his own, to being outworked, to being outright pummeled and beat up through rounds 5-9. Rounds 10-11 were unnecessary. I remember watching the fight and thinking that's it, Cotto's really done now.
INTERESTING TO NOTE: Cotto won round 10 on TWO of the judges' scorecards. Still, I wouldn't have complained had they stopped the fight in that 10th round or during the 9th. It didn't seem like Cotto was winning round 10 anyway, I was too busy looking at the damage Pacquiao had done.Comment
