One thought. Perhaps Winky turned down the De La Hoya fight because he does not want to get the stick on him that he built his reputation of beating blown up fighters from lower weight classes. Since he recently just fought Mosely x2 and Trinidad. Just a thought. That tag of having built your yep on beating smaller fighters is a legacy killer.

De la hoya was considered a pretty good 154 pound fighter. Winky has been wanting to fight DLH for years. He use to talk a lot of smack on the former champ for dodging him. I dont believe Winky would get that label at all because whenever journalists spoke of the 154 division and talked about the champions they had all mentioned how Winky is lurking in the back and nobody will give him a shot.

In a sense but at the same time they say his top opponents were smaller opponents where 160 wasnt their natural weight class.....

I respect Hopkins for his ability and all the title defences he made. But really you have to admit he is a boring fighter. Really Hopkins vs anybody does not excite me. The last Hopkins fight I saw that was at all exciting was vs Joppy where Hopkins totally dismantled him.

I agree because he is a defensive fighter so his style isnt appealing...Hopkins last true exciting fight was against Antwun Echols....However, the most exciting fight he has ever been in was against Segundo Mercado and he got a gift on that one because Segundo handed him his ass thoroughly.

Old Hopkins fights are a lot more interesting. There are some good brawls.

It's funny you should bring that up cause I was just reading the Sugar Ray Robinson autobiography recently and he said that he never complained too much about a bs decision against him because he knew that in other fights things went the other way and he would get the gift decision. It's too bad Hopkins doesn't think the same way after the loss to Taylor. The way he's been whining since then is really been disappointing, you would think that he would remember this fight in particular when he had no business getting the draw.

He's a master technician, which is considered boring by alot of us. It really depends on my mood at the time; sometimes theres nothing better than a good technical fight. Most of the time I prefer a few good rd's and then a stoppage. Regardless, I wont take anything away from bernard cause at defense there are none better.
