Angelo Dundee: how long can you crucify Margarito?

Legendary trainer, Angelo Dundee, recently spoke about the Pacquiao and Margarito showdown, and he believes that Margarito has paid his dues and deserves a second a chance.

He also stated Margarito has a decent chance at pulling out an upset.

    What do you guys think?

here is the original post from *********dotcom.

While most people in boxing are predicting a Manny Pacquiao win on Saturday night, Hall of Fame trainer Angelo Dundee says Antonio Margarito has the style to derail the Pacman Express. “The style of Margarito is the style that gives a southpaw trouble,” said Dundee. “He comes forward and the only way to fight a southpaw is to come forward. That is my interpretation…Dundeeism. I trained a half dozen southpaws. I had a boxer named Andy Durell fight the greatest boxer of all time, Willie Pep, and he took it as a warm-up in Miami Beach. The southpaw gave him all the trouble he wanted, busted him up and everything and it was supposed to be an easy fight.”

He continued, “Margarito has the style to give him ulcers. Margarito will be the biggest guy he has fought and he will fight aggressively and throw punches from every angle. It is going to be a great fight and I am glad it was made, I mean how long can you crucify a guy? It was wrong that Las Vegas turned the fight down.

“I like the area that the fight is going to be in and the crowd is going to be with Margarito. It is a tough fight and it wouldn’t amaze me to see Margarito come away with a win.

“I worked a couple of underdog fights…Ali and Liston, Willie Pastrano and Harold Johnson, Rodriguez and Griffin. Odds don’t mean nothing, it is the individuals that are fighting each other that mean everything.”

how did he pay his dues? he committed the biggest illegal move in boxing, loaded gloves, maybe more than once

he got a few months off.. (on paper, more, but in boxing reality where a fighter takes months of vacation between fights anyway, it was only a few months of suspension) laid low for a bit.. came back and signed the biggest payday of his life and was such a changed man that he taped cement blocks on tv on his fists and made fun of parkinsons disease

there was no punishment or due-paying whatsoever, he would be banned for life in "cleaner" combat sports

Because Angelo Dundee thinks its no big deal to be caught with plaster of paris in your hand-wraps. And why do fools on this website continue to say its not plaster of paris when the media already confirmed it was and so did Nazeem Richardson.

It's pretty sick to see how far people will go to protect a criminal. There's much better Mexican fighters out there who don't resort to cheating. They said the plaster of paris gets harder while the fight goes on.

I don't know dude, from every report I've seen they can't confirm that the actual ingredients of plaster of paris were in the gloves. They always say some vague stuff like.... "a substance that is one of the ingredients of plaster of paris." But I have yet to see someone qualified, particularly even the california state athletic commision say that he in fact did have all the building blocks and did have plaster of paris. Instead they are always vague.

I also read on a British site of how dangerous plaster of paris can be to flesh. One little girl attempted to make a mold of her hands by putting her hands into plaster of paris and burned all of her fingers off. The reaction apparently causes such a drastic raise in temperature that it will cook your hand.

Now, I am not saying he IS in fact innocent.... all I am saying is that every report is so damn vague in reality we should be demanding answers from the athletic commission as to what they actually found and not what they suspect they found. Sometimes it seems like the commissions are just comprised of 3 old dudes in golf pants making a killing on fees.

They never liked him to begin with, they called him a bum before the Cotto and said Cotto would beat him easily, and they've never gotten over the fact that they were wrong.

I use to share the view of Angelo, but after margarito made fun of someone with a disorder that was acquired through many fights in boxing, I changed my mind. He should have shown more class and gratefullness to the camp that agreed to give him the chance of a lifetime. This fight would have not been possible if that man with the Parkinson's disorder didn't agree to this fight.

Putting bricks in his hand and making fun about it is another issue I have against Margo. I however, let go off it by accepting his lame excuse that he is just making fun and didn't mean to be insensitive.

Before that, he made not few inappropriate statements but I shrugged them all off in the name of boxing and all were forgiven. Making fun of Roach disorder however, was the last straw.

The man is classless and a shame to the sport of boxing.

For the sake of boxing and decency I hope this man doen't win a single fight for the rest of his boxing days.

Dundee also believed in using illegal substances like smelling salts on his fighters. Margarito will be crucified till the end of time. This isn't Luis Resto we are talking about. Margarito was a high profile boxer that will always be tied to the war with Miguel Cotto. Cotto could of became something great and people will always wonder if it was Margaritos illegal wraps that put that idea to bed. People will talk about it when Angelo, you, or I are long gone.
