Marquez was a very shopworn and war-torn 35, markedly past his best form and was tipped to be sensationally KO'd, on top of being the naturally smaller man (height and length aside, Lopez is clearly stronger and more natural at the weight), but gave Lopez a competetive, close fight until he was pulled out on a hairline fracture to his shoulder-blade.

Different set of circumstances. Segura's scalp of Calderón, and the manner of it, is much more creditable, IMO.
Marquez quit, simple as that. If Hearns can fight 8 rounds in a 15 round fight with a broken hand and win, than Marquez could have fought 4 more rounds, but he didn since he knew he was going to get KTFO. Harry Greb and Sam Langord won fights with a blind eye, Monzon knock guys out with tissue & tendon damage to being shot in a leg, where was the great aztec warrior spirit?

Rick Reeno my former college classmate needs to get establish permanent bans.

      Here are facts:

1)Lopez has NEVER BEEN knocked out.

2)Fighting an older experienced fighter also can work against you, remember Bhop vs Pavlik? An older fighter took the younger guy to school. Many mexicans thought Lopez would get knocked out, and look what happened. You can't do backflips over Segura beating a 35 year old Calderon who is only 5 feet tall than make excuses for Marquez who is almost the same height and reach of Lopez.

3)Lopez beat guys like Penalosa, who was NEVER knocked out, he traded punch with punch, and his chin held up unlike Amir Khan. He beat Deleon who was a prime contender.

      4) I think Princesstroll is from scotland or wales, how many champs have they had compared to Puerto Rico an island of 4 million people. PR per capita has had more champs than any country in the world and here is how they stand up to the mighty 110 million country of Mexico in championship fights?

      50 to 38, WTF?
That is simply too much common sense in this post, they are going to skip it and pretend that they didn't read it or ignore it

        Fact.
Good thread. Segura gets nothing from me. Ivan was clearly too small for the weight on top of being old and shopworn.

          1) Maybe Weeks should have ignored the point deduction, right? I'm sure noone would have complained....

          2) Maybe, just maybe Rafa brought a little bit of power with him as he moved up in weight - I guess that can happen

Juanma is a farce and I dont see anything special from him, I can only say that he has decent power and thats it. After that, the guy can get it easy, is flat footed and has a crystal chin.

All I can say the guy is pure hype and nothing more. Israel Vazquez or Rafa Marquez not too far ago would have wiped the ring with him in one round.

              ...Keep trying media!!!

What has that to do with what we were talking about (ie. the comparative worths of Segura and Lopez' respective last victories)?

Way to completely change the subject. Segura > Calderón is the much better win and the more comprehensive one besides, regardless of whether or not one thinks Marquez quit.

A prime Vazquez would cream this Lopez if he could be here now, even at 126lb.

Marquez per the showtime boosters is HOF caliber, he is a bigger name than Segura. Calderon and Marquez are same age, bigger size discrepancy between Calderon and Segura than Marquez and Lopez. Calderon was slowing down and Marquez was coming off a win. The whole thing is clutching on straws to discredit one win and make the other bigger. Both are important wins.

Umm, obviously. But how is that relevant to our discussion? Who's comparing Marquez and Segura?

You could argue that Segura's size advantage is balanced at least some way by the fact that he has to put a lot of his camp into making weight, BUT I've already given you size. I've also already outlined the other factors that make Calderón the stronger of these two veteran scalps by a notable margin.

I wouldn't totally discredit Juanma's win, but Segura's is notably more creditable.

I don't get what Lopez did that was so "dishonorable". He went in there and won. Sure Marquez isn't in his prime and shouldn't translate into his biggest win, but it's definitely a great win. And his chin did hold up pretty well.

I certainly don't see how someone who is "neutral" about the rivalry would make this thread.
