  • I don't think Judah is a coward, and race shouldn't be involved in this discussion.

I thought Matthyse clearly won, but it was a clear hometown decision.

It was close, but the fight was also pretty clear to judge. Matthyse won the last 3, and he won about 3 or 4 more rounds between 1-9 for simply outworking Judah.

Conceivably I could see how someone could have gave it to Judah though. Can't wait until the fight is uploaded to watch it again

      Thanks for the update guys.

Highly unusual for everybody to agree on something.

Judah got lucky by the sound of things.

First, Judah sounded different before this fight - more focused and matured, cut out the bull**** trash talk, cleaned up his speach, removed himself from his thug lifestyle, took off all the bling-bling and even took out the diamonds in his teeth. But with all that said I was still leary because he said a lot of the same things before most of his last fights. So, I wanted to see how he would handle adversity in the fight, because that's usually when you see the "old" Judah show up... especially when he gets hurt, he would turn dirty.

Secondly, this was Judahs first fight back at lightweight since 2004. He obviously took the drop in weight class seriously, proving that by coming in @ 139 and only hydrating by 3lbs. before the fight. And for being his first fight back in a lower weight division he took on an undefeated and hard punching lightweight who gained 11lbs. after the weigh in. So, even though Zab barely eeked out a win in his fight against Matthysse, I think it was a big win for him mentally.

Lastly, Judah DID keep himself composed when adversity arose in the fight. The "old" Judah would have lost his mind after the first head butt, and would have thrown himself on the ground after the low blow. I think Judah showed his true intentions to be a changed MAN instead of the same spoiled child he has been in the past. Now let's see if he can maintain his new attitude if he should start seeing new success in the future.

The funny thing is that I have NOT been a Zab Judah fan since before the Baldomir fight. But, I gotta give credit where credit is due when a man dedicates himself to changing and takes steps to prove it by actions rather than words. The only thing I can say about his future is good luck. To be honest though, the only way I think he will be able to continue to improve himself (as a man and a fighter) is to get a different trainer. I don't think his father is doing him good being his trainer, and the only real chance I see him improving enough to take on the top contenders is by getting a better trainer in his corner.
Thanks Lorily, that adds some great context.

And that's what I was hoping for.

Nobody said it was going to be an easy fight.

        • I had Matthyeese winning by 1 point. I didn't feel that it was a decisive win for either fighter.

            • Close fight.

I had Matthysse up by two points.

              Not quite a robbery.
