Remember, Zab hasn't had many rounds in the last 3 years after losing to Clottey... He looked to be feeling his way...

And also styles make fights, every fight is different, I still believe Zab could give those other guys trouble...
Zab has trouble when the guy he's boxing doesn't swing wild like a ******. And he has trouble when he has to be the aggressor. If only he'd have thrown the left hand more, we'd have less of a conversation about this.

At least the scorecards weren't terrible.

Anyone notice how Roy was clearly rooting for Zab?

It was close. I had it 114-113 for Matthysse but as close as it was I don't really seeing it going either way. How weak was that knockdown? I don't even see how Zab could've been hurt by that. Just another HBO b-side foreigner getting robbed at 140

I was thinking the same things...

First, Judah sounded different before this fight - more focused and matured, cut out the bull**** trash talk, cleaned up his speach, removed himself from his thug lifestyle, took off all the bling-bling and even took out the diamonds in his teeth. But with all that said I was still leary because he said a lot of the same things before most of his last fights. So, I wanted to see how he would handle adversity in the fight, because that's usually when you see the "old" Judah show up... especially when he gets hurt, he would turn dirty.

Secondly, this was Judahs first fight back at lightweight since 2004. He obviously took the drop in weight class seriously, proving that by coming in @ 139 and only hydrating by 3lbs. before the fight. And for being his first fight back in a lower weight division he took on an undefeated and hard punching lightweight who gained 11lbs. after the weigh in. So, even though Zab barely eeked out a win in his fight against Matthysse, I think it was a big win for him mentally.

Lastly, Judah DID keep himself composed when adversity arose in the fight. The "old" Judah would have lost his mind after the first head butt, and would have thrown himself on the ground after the low blow. I think Judah showed his true intentions to be a changed MAN instead of the same spoiled child he has been in the past. Now let's see if he can maintain his new attitude if he should start seeing new success in the future.

The funny thing is that I have NOT been a Zab Judah fan since before the Baldomir fight. But, I gotta give credit where credit is due when a man dedicates himself to changing and takes steps to prove it by actions rather than words. The only thing I can say about his future is good luck. To be honest though, the only way I think he will be able to continue to improve himself (as a man and a fighter) is to get a different trainer. I don't think his father is doing him good being his trainer, and the only real chance I see him improving enough to take on the top contenders is by getting a better trainer in his corner.

Matthysse is a brutal puncher with that right hand

i'm not sure why some of you are questioning his power

zab was in the process of taking a knee after he was rocked by a right hand that hit him on the gloves

after that sequence he started holding and retreating almost exclusively. perhaps if he'd been caught earlier he'd have lost on the cards, because he wasnt trying to win rounds after he tasted that power

that shot knocked him into plan b or c or perhaps even d

Lucas certainly looks to be at least as crude as maidana and at this point he's markedly less experienced.

but he's faster by the looks of it
          perhaps a better pure athlete
          sturdy chin

maidana is a heavier two handed puncher in my opinion,
          a real finisher
underrated defensively and in terms of the subleties of his offense

zab and lucas are interestig quan****** at 140

          the obvious question?
if all these guys are fighting on hbo why not make a tournament out of it?

showtime has made a massive event of the super six

imagine the sort of wildness we'd see in 8 man jr WW tournament, with the likes of kahn, bradley, alexander, madaina, zab, ortiz, kotelnik, matthysse

even the press conferences would be fun

Everyone is saying it wasn't a robbery because it was close. But most of the people who saw the fight clearly thought Matthyse won. So, maybe it was a robbery.

Also, if you don't think Matthyse didn't win the 10, 11, and 12 rounds you are obviously biased. Or, you don't know how to judge a fight.

How in the world can you give a round where the guy is flailing around and avoiding any exchange like the plague.

Of course Matthyse didn't win the fight IF YOU CAN'T EVEN RECOGNIZE THAT HE WON THE LAST 3 ROUNDS.

Judah looked good,I had the fight a draw but I'm not mad at the outcome at all it was a close fight..Thing I notice bout Zab tho was he really hates body shots..He takes those worse then he takes head shots..I say he can give other fighters at the weight problems but he won't beat Bradley or Maidana..He has a shot with Devon and Khan IMO..

                    • I always same the same thing: blacks are cowards. this fight was proof of that. Zab was holding and running like a coward. Mexicans ans Latinos in general fight with heart. The judges robbed mathysse, it was a form of racism cause Judah is American.
