This is from EVERLAST FALL 2010
Fans love to draw a line on the canvas and take a side. There was a rather unsatisfying materialization of this endless debate recently, but the truth is that this tug-of-war has been a point of contention even in the early days of boxing.
In one of Everlast's boxing records dating back from 1925, there was an article written on the subject, topped with a large, bold title that said "WRESTLER vs. BOXER."
Here's a quick excerpt:
"Who would win in a rough and tumble fight? Some claim a fighter, and others claim a wrestler would be victorious---anyway it is an interesting discussion. A boxer is much faster and a wrestler is much stronger. Both a boxer and a wrestler are well trained athletes and everyone likes to see their muscles ripple under the skin as they work."
But the truth of the matter is that both sports fall under the wide umbrella of Fight Sports---and both have room to shine under their own glimmering spotlights. Each type of fighter has something unique to bring to fight sports ---after all, it's not about who wins or loses, but about heart of the fighter.
The author went on to write,"The punch...is not the only thing...Gameness stands ahead of all attributes of the [fighter], and that must be born in the man. Many a man can be game when he sees a chance to win, but it takes a stout heart to carry one away from one's corner, round after round, through a losing fight. You may teach a man to be clever; some say they learned how to deliver a finishing punch, but there is no school in the wide universe over where heart can be developed."
Think about that next time you strap on a pair of Everlast gloves and start training.
