Outside a few interesting exchanges in the early going, 25-year old Super Middleweight Edwin Rodriguez (17-0, 12 KO) of Worcester, Massachusetts, dominated the action at the Scheels Arena, Fargo, North Dakota en route to a ninth round stoppage of 27-year old James McGirt Jr. (22-2-1, 11 KO) of Cero Beach, Florida, on Friday night. McGirt, the son of former Jr. Welterweight and Welterweight champion Buddy McGirt, could never figure out how to stay off the ropes against the aggressive Rodriguez who scored his fifth straight win inside the distance.

I'm a guy who loves power in a fighter and favors knock out artists and brawlers over slick boxers. Having said that, I wasn't overly impressed with Edwin last night. The kid has some pop in his punches but I think his power is overrated and has more to do with the opposition he's faced rather than his ability to punch.

Last night I saw a fighter that could punch a little as well as one who was slow, sloppy, and inconsistent. He's got time to improve as he's young but I believe he goes down if he steps up his level of competition right now.

don't know what mcgirt was trying to accomplish by lying on the ropes and recieving punishment.

Rodriguez is still UNdefeated and UNtested. McGirt wasn't in any trouble at the time of the stoppage but I think that the referee was as bored as me of that ****ty fight.

Edwin's been a pro since '08 guys

he's so far from a finished product it's rediculous

hell, he's a 25 year old super middleweight... he's still growing and punching harder


If you think he's been matched soft you should take a look at the record of some of your favorite young fighters and prospects...


building a world class professional boxer is calculated process that takes years

edwin is right on track to contend for a world title in 2011 as planned, but i'd like to see his team wait until 2012 to take a run at a world title

every time he fight's he looks lightyears beyond his last performance.


he takes mental breaks. always has.
when he does he'll throw lazy punches, or telegraphed shots. if you've watched his fights it's easy to tell he's working the kinks out of his game


if you guys think that all of your world champions and favorite fighters were born with a set of ten ounce pro gloves on you're sorely mistaken
if you think any fighter in the history of the sport has gone out into the pro ranks and become a world champion without learning or improving as he built a record... well then you dont know about the essence of the sport

I am not surprised to hear such a comment from a Puerto Rican referring to a Dominican fighter.....nothing new here. Funny thing about it though is how many Dominicans support Puerto Rican fighters...but I guess that's how it goes.

Whats wrong with you guys? Rodriguez is the best 168 prospect in the world. He is being put in with Arron Pryor jr. next which he will beat in an easy blow out for him but he is not that far along in his career yet.
